Documents required

  1. Original passport valid for at least 3 months after the return from the trip (secondary sources mention 3 to 6 months; 6 months is the safe option), with at least two blank pages
  2. Photocopy of the biometric data page in the passport and of previous Schengen visas
  3. Previous passport covering the last 7 years (mandatory according to the embassy page)
  4. Movement record certificate (from Mogamma Tahrir) for first-time travellers or if the passport does not cover the last 7 years
  5. Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  6. Recent colour photo with a white background (35×45 mm according to a secondary source)
  7. Original bank statement for the last 6 months, stamped on every page (or proof of other assets if there is no bank account)
  8. Return flight booking (preliminary booking accepted)
  9. Hotel booking or proof of accommodation (preliminary booking)
  10. Travel medical insurance covering the entire stay, valid in all Schengen countries with coverage of at least 30,000 euros, including repatriation
  11. Employment letter or commercial register for business owners to prove ties to Egypt
  12. School or university enrolment certificate for students
  13. National ID card (copy)
  14. Cover letter explaining the itinerary and purpose of the trip (secondary source)

How to apply from Egypt

  1. Prepare the documents and fill in and sign the Schengen application form
  2. Book an appointment at the VFS Global centre for Sweden in Egypt (Cairo or Alexandria) via the VFS website or by phone at +20 2 333 23 004
  3. Attend the appointment in person to submit the application, provide biometrics, and pay the visa fee and VFS service fee
  4. The Swedish Embassy in Cairo reviews the application and makes the decision; documents must not be sent to it directly
  5. Collect the passport after the decision from VFS Global
  6. Alternative: apply directly at the embassy by prior appointment (waiting and processing times are longer)
